Amber stone is a naturally occurring fossilized resin that has been used for centuries by many cultures. It’s made up of complex hydrocarbons and is usually yellow to brown in color, though can occasionally be seen with other hues including blue, green, and red when exposed to UV light or heat. Amber often forms in sedimentary layers near bodies of water and due to its dense makeup, it can float on top of these waters until it eventually washes ashore where it can then be collected by people. Although classified as an organic gemstone, amber does not meet the requirements for being deemed a mineral – instead, it’s considered a semi-precious stone.
